W warunkach globalnej gospodarki rachunkowość zarządcza, generująca informacje niezbędne do podejmowania decyzji strategicznych oraz operacyjnego zarządzania przedsiębiorstwem, nabiera coraz większego znaczenia. Publikacja jest pierwszą w polskim piśmiennictwie pozycją, w której zaprezentowano tendencje rozwoju i funkcjonowania zawodu specjalisty rachunkowości zarządczej/controllingu w przedsiębiorstwach w Polsce na tle rozwiązań międzynarodowych. Krytyczna analiza wzbogacająca dotychczasowy stan wiedzy naukowej na temat kompetencji specjalisty rachunkowości zarządczej umożliwia sformułowanie odpowiedzi m.in. na takie pytania: Jak bardzo zróżnicowaną grupą zawodową są badani specjaliści w Polsce i jak bardzo odbiegają oni od profilu zawodowego ich odpowiedników w krajach rozwiniętych? Jakie zadania realizują oni aktualnie i jakie narzędzia do tego wykorzystują? Jakie wymagania w zakresie umiejętności, wiedzy i cech charakteru są niezbędne do wykonywania tego zawodu?
Przeprowadzone badania mogą stać się wskazówką zarówno dla uczelni wyższych w zakresie tworzenia i udoskonalania programów kształcenia, jak i dla pracodawców chcących zwiększyć efektywność procesów rekrutacji pracowników na stanowiska związane z rachunkowością zarządczą/controllingiem.
